"Childhood Obesity: Is Advertising to Blame?"

"Children are exposed to $13 billion of food advertising every year, according to a professor of food and resource economics at the University of Florida." WHOA!! That is a shocking statistic. This article talked about children's exposure to advertisements and its affect on what they eat. The most interesting part of this article was this part about an experiment that she conducted on her niece. Her oldest niece Taylor is in love with princesses, but refused to eat fruits. Taylor's mom recently found packaged grapes with princesses on the cover and Taylor had no trouble eating them. Taylor was influenced by advertising because she only wanted to eat things that had to do with princesses. If the princesses were eating them, she would eat them. This just goes to show that advertising affects what children eat and what they want to eat. The website to this article is:

That's insane. '$13 bilion of food advertising every year'!!!!! The story with the girl and princesses makes sense though. Kids these days watch so much tv that they are influenced by their role models on tv and only what to do (or eat) what they eat.

Yes that is crazy just how much they are exposed per year. That does make sense that the media is the reason why so many children are overweight. It seems as though parents have to bribe their kids that have stuff on the front of the packages in order to make them eat it. Advertisments most definetly just play with the minds of children too much.

Nobody can TRULY blame advertsiing. A lot of the times, it's the adult's decision.

Parents can learn to say no? Last I checked, kids didn't run the world lol

Sometimes people need to stricken their positions and be stern. That's the reason we all cringe at crying children in grocery stores..

"But MOM!! I WANT IT!!"

sorry.. not a huge fan of spoiled kids. lol
